Masters of the Universe Origins - Mysteries of Grayskull Deluxe Accessories Pack - Power Con 2021 Exclusive

One of the most-requested obscure Masters of the Universe characters finally becomes a fully articulated action figure in this accessory pack. The Explorer Space Suit was originally depicted as a cardboard insert in the vintage Castle Grayskull playset. While it might have originally been intended to be a space suit, it has also been interpreted as either an ancient suit of cosmic armor or even a robot. It certianly has sparked the imaginations of fans over the years, and now it gets its own figure in the new Origins style. Originally released as an exclusive for Power-Con 2021, the figure comes in a three-pack of add-ons for the Origins Castle Grayskull playset which also includes a 3d dungeon grate with tentical monster, and the Spirit of Grayskull.

The set comes packed in an outer box which is designed to look like a wooden chest. The back of the box features a list of the set designers. The inner box is a work of art all of its own, dsigned to look like the vintage Grayskull dungeon grate sticker! The back of the inner box features cross sell type artwork depicting the box contents on a scroll reminiscent of the back cover of the old vintage mini-comics! Opening the lid reveals a plastic tray holding the contents of the set.

Originally revealed along with two other exclusive sets for the Masters of the Universe fan convention Power-Con, which was held Sept. 11-12, 2021 in Anaheim, California, the Mysteries of Grayskull Deluxe Accessories pack offered for pre-sale on May 15th of 2021 at a very reasonable price of US$30 and quickly sold out. The set was later made available for a limited time after the convention on the Mattel Creations website where it also immediately sold out within minutes of being made available.

The Mysteries of Grayskull proved to be so popular mainly because of the included figure, a must-have to complete the Origins Castle Grayskull Playset. It really should have been included with the playset instead of the Temple of Darkness Sorceress figure which actually came with it.

The sets were apparently mostly snapped up by scalpers as they instantly appeared all over Evil-Bay for ridiculous prices! And adding insult to injury, the sets sold through Mattel Creations have already shipped to those who bought them while the Power-Con attendees, who should have gotten their sets at the convention, still haven't seen theirs as of the date of this adventure. Sad.

The set also includes an addition for the Castle Grayskull playset with an actual Dwell of Souls dungeon grate accessory that snaps onto the Origins Castle Grayskull playset in the place of the sticker. Also included with the Dwell of Souls add-on is the mysterious tentical monster known as the Orlax of Primeria which can either snap onto the grate or into the Dwell itself!

The final piece in the set is the Spirit of Grayskull which utilizes the design originally seen in the vintage mini-comic, "King of Castle Grayskull."

The Spirit is made of a green translucent plastic, the body of which is solid but with flexible smoke whisp "arms," and features a hole in the base allowing it to be snapped onto the pegs of either of the towers of the Castle Grayskull Playset.

Were you able to score one of these sets? Do you think the figure should have been included in the Origins Grayskull Playset? How do you feel about this set with such a essential figure being offered as convention exclusive? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below!

    1. The Spirit is pretty cool, but it could have at least been glow in the dark! To be honest the only thing I originally wanted out of this set was the space suit.

  2. I just received mine from Mattel! Scored it on the Mattel Creations "second chance" offering, but was unable to get any of the others offerings, which all sold out before I could put them in the cart. I wish Mattel & Hasbro would just give us what we want without jumping thru hoops- it's frustrating. That said, this Mysteries of Grayskull set was top of my want list, having enjoyed the new Origins Castle Grayskull. So great ...!
