Weird-Ohs: Huey's Hut Rod the Way Outhouse Bomb

Its Huey's Hut Rod, the Way Outhouse Bomb! Huey is a green hillbilly monster with crazy bulging eyes, his long tongue hangs out of his jagged toothed mouth. He has cobbled together his "hut rod" from an an old outhouse, scrap lumber, and other assorted junk! A toilet plunger is attached to the side and he uses a corn cob for his gear shift knob. The engine has a huge turbo charger on top with a pink rubber band for a belt. The exhaust is made from galvanized steel plumbing pipes. That isn't moonshine in that jug he is using for a fuel tank, that's Pluto Water, a powerful old time laxative. He rattles past a sign which reads, "Podunk Holler Drag Strip."

Weird-Ohs: Digger the Way Out Dragster

Lets take a look at Digger the Way Out Dragster. Digger is a hideous green monster with bloodshot eyes and a wide shark-toothed grin driving a blue dragster. The exhaust pipe is coming out of his gloss yellow helmet and parachute pack is strapped on his back. The knob of his comically long gear shift is an 8-ball. Apparently the dragster is fueled by a concoction called "Jiggle Juice." The engine has blown parts all over the pavement as he speeds past a sign which says "Dragsville Rubber Burners."

CD Artwork: Sounds of the Weird-Ohs

I recently made a CD of the old "Sounds of the Weird-Ohs" album and made some artwork for a jewel case for it. Thought I would share. These images can be downloaded at full size from my deviantArt page. These should come out the right size if printed double sided at 300 dpi. If you want to download the album all the songs are in mp3 format on weird-ohs.net.

Obituary: William W. "Bill" Campbell

I'm a bit late with this news but back at the beginning of the month it was learned that William W. "Bill" Campbell passed away at the age of 97. Campbell was a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. He is best remembered for his invention of the iconic Weird-Ohs model kits for Hawk Models. He started out as a box art illustrator for Hawk Plastic Models. After coming to the conclusion that the model car market was saturated, he made up some prototypes of monsters in hot rods which eventually became the Weird-Oh Car-icky-tures line of plastic models which also featured his artwork on the boxes.

Huey's Hut Rod - The Way Outhouse Bomb

Huey lived in Tennessee atop a mountain tall, he always wanted a hot rod, but his ready cash was small. So, using parts he found out back Huey got it done, he didn't win any races, but he did have lots of fun. With natural gas and moonshine he made that out-house run!

Digger the Way Out Dragster

The massive slicks of the candy blue dragster bit deeply into the asphalt as tire smoke streamed back behind the rail. The driver shoved the long 8-ball shifter forward as the front wheels leaped from the pavement with a surge of power. Engine parts and oil blew out from the block, but the bulging, bloodshot eyes of the driver revealed no concern as long orange exhaust flames

Weird-Ohs Models

In the early 1960s, the Hawk model company released the first few Weird-Ohs model kits. The company wisely monopolized on the current fad of cars and monsters. These kits were re-issued in the 70's and 80's and I had Digger and Davey. I always wanted Huey. These kits are forever lost to time. I found out that the kits had been reissued again not too long ago. I bought Digger and Huey and here they are!
