Out and About: A Visit to the Comic Shop

Recently we got sick of being at home and decided to venture out again. What better place to go than Memphis' premier comics shop -- Comics and Collectibles!

Located at 4730 Poplar Ave, Ste 2 in Memphis, TN, Comics and Collectibles has been open in east Memphis for more than 20 years and has arguably the largest selection of comic books, graphic novels, role playing gear, and related toys in the Mid-South!

Comics and Collectibles also has a web presence with both a Facebook and a blog.

Upon entering the store you will be overwhelmed at the amount of stock, from all the newest comics to a huge collection of back issues in long boxes all alphabetically arranged! In addition to comics there are all sorts of comics themed toys and collectibles, a nice selection of role-playing games and accessories, along with a small section of vintage toys.

This is Ron, he is the owner and will gladly help you find anything you are looking for. He is very friendly and knowledgeable and will happily engage you in conversation. Ron can usually be found among the long boxes working on the extensive collection of back issues.

I asked Ron how business has been since the pandemic. He told me that business has been booming since they were allowed to open back up; even better than this same time last year! This was great news! Check out the store's Facebook page, the store runs an auction every Sunday.

My daughter joined the adventure with me today and here she is running about looking into everything!

I spent a great deal of my time browsing through the store and I found a few things to buy all well. I got a some bronze age goodies in the back issues, bought a short box, and finally some bags and boards. But, all good things must eventually come to an end and so it was time to go. We approached the register where we met the sweet clerk Traci who checked us out with a smile.

I can't tell you enough what a wonderful time we had today. It was good to get out and about and to go to such a great store. I've been in a few comic shops in my day and I must say this one is by far one of the best and most friendly. Ron and his staff aren't like the stereotypical comic shop employees. You won't find Comic Book Guy running around being all snobby and telling you what you have to like and dislike. The staff is not overly pushy and they will leave you alone to browse and look to your heart's desire.

Now lets take a virtual tour of the store:

What do you think of today's adventure at the comic shop? Do you have a favorite comic shop or collectibles store that you like to go to? What's it called? Where is it? Let us know all about it in the comments section below!

  2. Now that's a comic book shop! You should see the piss poor examples that I've had to make do with on the other side of the state.

  4. Great news for small businesses. Always relieving to hear that they can survive and sometimes do better during these times.
