Every great hero needs a great villain. The main antagonist of the Masters of the Universe franchise, Skeletor, a demonic being from another dimension, is the most evil and dangerous threat to peace on Eternia. His goal is to gain the secrets of Castle Grayskull in order to bring his people to Eternia and conquer it, becoming master of the universe. This places him in direct conflict with the only man powerful enough to stop him... He-Man!

I saw these figures at Wal-Mart the other day and I just couldn't help myself and got them all. Today we break open the Skeletor figure --

Skeltor comes on a retro designed blister card that looks very much like original packaging from the ’80s.

The Masters of the Universe logo is at the top with Skeletor’s name below. Skeletor himself is displayed at the bottom of the blister.

On the back, at the top is some artwork of Skeletor, below that we get the cross sell art of the action features and pictures of the rest of the figures of the 1st wave.

Taking Skeletor off the card we get a good look at all the bright colors used on him. His body uses the same sculpt as He-Man, but with new armor on his chest, hips and boots. Skeletor’s skin tone is a bright blue color, with his armor painted in purple and a black loin cloth. Other than than the updated articulation, everything very much looks like how the figure looked in the 80s, just brighter. He also features a brand new head sculpt with an open mouth... which is ok I suppose, but I'm just not digging it.

Supposedly an alternate head based on the original figure will be included with Battle Armor Skeletor next year. I suppose thats a good way to get me to buy that figure, because I wouldn't have, otherwise.

Skeletor wears his purple bat-themed harness and loin belt. Also included are Skeletor's iconic ram headed Havok Staff, the other half of He-Man's Power Sword (colored purple), and a mini comic (its the same one for all the figures, boooo).

Articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, waist rotation, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Now lets take a closer look at the figure:

  1. I did collect them back in '82, and have been really happy with the Origins line- as soon as Mattel let's loose out of that stupid Walmart exclusive deal, I think they will be happier with the numbers wide-spread distribution will bring. These retailer exclusive deals are frustrating, and I believe they actually hurt sales.

    1. My goal is to get Mer-man, Stratos, and Zodac to have all the original figures and probably get the delux figures to get alternate original head sculpts. I am skipping the new Castle Grayskull playset in favor of restoring my old one and customizing it.
