The Real Ghostbusters: Ghostbuster Janine Custom Action Figure
Back in the spring I made a custom action figure of Janine in her Ghostbuster gear. Thought I'd share some photos... I really meant to post this a while back but life distracted me a big way and I just never got around to it.
The figure base is a Real Ghostbusters Janine Melnitz Kenner Racin Wringer figure. Basically all that needed to be done was a repaint. The jumpsuit was painted pink with purple/gray trim, boots, and belt. The Ghostbuster emblem is actually the emblem from the base figure, I just carefully painted around it! The elbow pad was painted light gray. Her glasses were painted green and the lenses painted white. I also painted on some light blue eye shadow. She was given an old purple proton pack from a fright figure to round her out.

Leaf Comicbook Candy Secret Origins Mini-Comics
Sometime around 1981 or so when I was about 10 years old I headed down to the local drugstore with some change burning a hole in my pocket... Our local drugstore had a full comics rack, lots of candy, cheap toys, and a soda fountain. But there was something new among the candy selections on this day!
It was Leaf Comicbook Candy! The 6 x 8 x 7 ¼" cardboard counter top display contained 36 mini comics, each 2 ¾ x 4 ¼" featuring the secret origins of eight different DC Comics characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Hawkman, and the Justice League of America. Each box contained at least two of each title as well as several assorted duplicates. The comics came sealed in original bags with "Leaf Comic Book Candy Tart N' Tangy" candies that

Status Update (Good News/Bad News)
Bad news... I won't have the computer free time I had at the old job so my post will get sporadic... :(
I never had the money problems during this downturn I thought I might so I didn't have to get drastic and sell off any of my toys! I had just bought some new stuff right before my old job played out I do plan to get some pics made of some of it and try to get a post or two in the next few weeks if I can. Stay tuned!

MAD Magazine to Cease Publication
Alfred E. Neuman |
Per the report, "I just heard from a friend of mine who is in a Facebook group with MAD writer Stan Stinberg that, after the next two issues, MAD will no longer be publishing original material. Instead, it’ll publish reprinted material until it’s subscription responsibilities are fulfilled and then the magazine will cease publication."

A little set back in life...
I haven't been posting lately since the three part GeoCities article because life decided to issue me another challenge. :/ On Friday May 31st my contract at work wasn't renewed. This means I am on a job search for the first time in nearly 20 years!
All isn't bad... I am nearly debt free! My house and all my vehicles are paid for. I have few bills other than utilities. My wife is still working and I am drawing unemployment. I am going to have sell parts of my collection though. Probably most of the good stuff will go on the "Big Auction Site" I already am selling my comic collection... Its been under the bed since we moved in this house back 1997!

Remembering Geocities Pt 3: Archival to Revival
On January 28, 1999, GeoCities was acquired by Yahoo!, at which time it was allegedly the third-most
visited website on the World Wide Web. In April 2009, the company announced that it would shut down
the United States GeoCities service on October 26, 2009. There were at least 38 million pages on
GeoCities before it was shut down, most user-written.

Remembering GeoCities Pt2: The Internet Suburbanized
In the 1990s computing was very exciting. The World Wide Web had just been created and with the release of the first graphical web browsers Mosaic and Netscape, "surfing the web" was a new national past time.
At first web sites and web pages were only for the privileged few... academics and later big business. But in 1994, entrepreneurs David Bohnett and John Rezner founded a Web hosting service called Beverly Hills Internet, which would later be known as GeoCities. The service allowed anybody to create their own Web page for free!

Remembering GeoCities Pt 1: The 1990s and Web 1.0
Grab your keyboards and strap on your velcro sneakers, kiddies, its time to surf the Internet Super-Highway on the World Wide Web! Lets return to a time before social networking. Long before there was such a thing as Facebook or Twitter... or even Google, there was this little place called GeoCities. In order to understand how it became so popular, we must understand Web 1.0 in the 1990s...
The Internet was once actually a frontier, a brave new world ready to be explored. Every single day something fresh and new was waiting to be discovered. Everything could change depending on which browser was chosen! Speeds were confined to dial-up modems so it was imperative that pages load in a reasonable amount of time or a significant portion of the intended audience would be lost. It was the beginnings of what would become known as the World Wide Web!

Kenner Real Ghostbusters Fire House Headquarters Playset
If you were a fan of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon show in the late 1980s, and were collecting the action figures produced by Kenner, then this playset was a must-have item!
This thing is massive! Three floors tall, the Fire House Headquarters has a "Ghost Pursuit" firepole, "goop grates" with 5 oz. can of Ecto-Plazm play gel, a "ghost containment" unit for storing ghosts, and opening and closing fire house doors! Yes, even the doors were considered an accessory back then! Action figures sold separately...

Super Powers Alfred Pennyworth Custom Figure
One the biggest issues with the Super Powers Collection, or practically any other action figure collection for that matter, is the lack of figures for the supporting cast, secondary characters, or even background characters. Citizens need saving, firemen and police officers need assistance, and Lois Lane desperately needs to land that precious scoop for the Daily Planet!
The economics of why these figures aren't made are crystal clear, but the need for them still exists... Of course figures from other collections can be appropriated, but many times the only choice is to make a custom figure!

Review: Kenner Super Powers Hall of Justice Playset
Its the Super Powers Collection Hall of Justice playset! Although early concept artwork originally envisioned the Hall of Justice as merely a figure storage case, by the time it reached production it had been expanded into a full fledged playset. However, some storage case elements did carry over. The "teleportation" and "revitalization" chambers give the playset added value, allowing it to become a storage case for up to 10 Super Powers figures.
