The economics of why these figures aren't made are crystal clear, but the need for them still exists... Of course figures from other collections can be appropriated, but many times the only choice is to make a custom figure!
Javier Garcia's Custom Alfred |
The recipe is pretty simple, a Super Powers Joker body with a ToyBiz Mr. Freeze head. A little repainting and a Sculpy tie and voilĂ ... a Super Powers Alfred figure!
To get the heads off, the old tried and true boil-and-pop method was used. The Joker's neck seemed way too long, making for a rather creepy looking figure. So, the neck was trimmed and the head attached using a wooden peg.
Edit 2/26/2020: A new method of working with the Sulpy was used to make a better bowtie! First Sulpy was used to make a mold of a Penguin figures's bowtie. The mold was used with more Sculpy to fashion a new bowtie that look much better the old tie did! Also Sculpy buttons were added to the shirt. All the images of the original figure on the adventure have been replaced.

That Alfred figure is great. Its a shame they only gave us Clark in the form of non-powered characters (I know Clark is supes but he can be used as a civilian).
ReplyDeleteThanks! True about CK... but he costs so much now it is hard to justify making a custom out of a CK Super Powers figure. If I were to do it it would probably be to make a Bruce Wayne figure... I have found that Bruder's figures are almost the same scale as SP figures.
DeleteWhat's "Bruder"?
DeleteA toy company that makes some pretty cool but expensive realistic toys and figures. https://www.brudertoys.com/en/usa/
DeleteCool... we will check them out
DeleteGreat job!Superpowers figures don't seem like the easiest to customize.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't and it is really easy to screw up and ruin them. If you start trying to swap too much you end up breaking the super power feature in the too... This is probably the only custom I am going to do with SP figures... Someday I might make a Bruce Wayne out of a Clark Kent figure, though.
DeleteAwesome custom. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm hyper critical of my own work and it's nice to get some good feedback.
DeleteLower part Joker... Cool "Alfred" figure !!
ReplyDeleteand happy Easter to you and yours !!
Thank you, kind sir!
DeleteYou've done an excellent job on this important character! Alfred is certainly a huge asset to Batman's team!
ReplyDeleteIts kind of a shame that there weren't any secondary characters made for the Super Powers Collection.
Deleteyou used the joker's body and Luthor's head?
