If you were a fan of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon show in the late 1980s, and were collecting the action figures produced by Kenner, then this playset was a must-have item!
This thing is massive! Three floors tall, the Fire House Headquarters has a "Ghost Pursuit" firepole, "goop grates" with 5 oz. can of Ecto-Plazm play gel, a "ghost containment" unit for storing ghosts, and opening and closing fire house doors! Yes, even the doors were considered an accessory back then! Action figures sold separately...
One of these playsets was recently discovered in an old storage shed. It was in rough shape, dirty and filled with hornet nests! It was rescued, given a bath, and re-stickered. Beyond all that, it was in surprisingly good shape! The sign, front doors, and the firepole had to be replaced, along with a new containment unit.
Skip that goopy Ecto-Plazm slime though! That crap was noxious, got into (and ruined) everything, and seemed to be all over the place back then under a varieties of different names and brands. I blame Nickelodeon and You Can't Do That On Television!

Very nice! I picked one up sitting with the trash on the Sidewalk in San Francisco in 1998. It was missing everything but was still very impressive. They reused the fire house as the Police academy playset later on.
ReplyDeleteNow that is neat... Makes me want one to make a Gotham City Police Station!.
DeleteSo cool!GB's was the only non superhero/military figure I actually dug as a kid.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! This is one of my grails. Always loved the RGB!
ReplyDeleteThe Playmobil one is a dead-ringer if you want a modern example that doesn't cut any corners.
