Lance Russell along with Dave Brown were the announcers on Championship Wrestling in Memphis, TN. With a career spanning more than fifty years, Russell was arguably one of the most recognizable voices in professional wrestling.
He first began announcing matches at WHBQ channel 13 before heading up the long-running Saturday morning wrestling program on WMC channel 5 with Dave in 1977.
Russell even caught himself up in the action from time to time, including one match no one will ever forget: The time comedian Andy Kaufman stepped in the ring.
Another classic moment? The Tupelo concession stand brawl. Institutionalized jars of ketchup and mustard were thrown across the arena.
