The History of Saturday Morning Cartoons & Why They Disappeared


For a few decades at the end of the 20th century kids all over the US gathered in front of their TV's every Saturday morning for the Saturday Morning Cartoon ritual.

Bugs Bunny, Mr. T, Pac-Man, The Ghostbusters, Thhe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, wizards, monsters, villains, heroes and everything else.

But it's gone now, at least on the major networks. Where did it go? Why did it go?

  1. You know,I think free over the air retro channels like Antenna and ME TV need to show some of our old cartoon favs on Saturaday mornings.I even sent them an E-Mail about It.

    1. That would be wonderful. You know that a while back when NickAtNite first started coming on showing the old 70s and 80s primetime shows they would air vintage Saturday morning cartoons on Saturday mornings. I know there are rights issues and royalties to pay, but I don't see why one of the cartoon networks doesn't try it as well.
